Mariah Carey UpdatePopular Mariah Carey fansite Mariah Daily Journal have shed light on the status of the singer's forthcoming album:
As we all know, Mariah has been hard at work on her upcoming album which is reportedly set for release later this year. In her latest message on Twitter, she writes:
MariahHBF: Hey! Getting ready to go to the studio in Miami. Very excited cos I haven't worked w/"Big" Jim Wright in a while..remember "fly like a bird"
Big Jim Wright has worked with Mariah for years. Most recently, he co-wrote and co-produced "Fly Like A Bird," the Gospel-drenched song on Mariah's best-selling 2005 album, The Emancipation of Mimi. The collaboration also produced two other tracks on the album, "Circles" and "I Wish You Knew."

Both Mariah and Big Jim had worked together previously on tracks "Petals," "Can't Take That Away," "Bliss" from Rainbow (1999); "Lead The Way," "Twister," "Want You," "Reflections" from the Glitter soundtrack (2001); and "Through The Rain," "Yours" from Charmbracelet (2002).

Meanwhile, in other album news, Jermaine Dupri (Y'all know who this is!) and Bryan-Michael Cox ("I Stay In Love," "For The Record," "We Belong Together," "Shake It Off," "How Much," "The One") in their recent posts on Twitter have revealed some information about a new Mariah song called "100 Percent."

Jermaine Dupri: im on my to the studio to work on this new mariah record i no yall lambs wanna hear that

Bryan-Michael Cox: Still in with Adrienne in NY & JD is working on our joint with Mariah in ATL "100 Percent". The General & The Ranger stay working!!!!

Jermaine Dupri: YO THIS MARIAH RECORD IS CRAZY

Bryan-Michael Cox: **** it was crazy when we did it!!!! I know it sounds crazy now!! Let's get these damn Grammys like we always do...LOL!
Sounds promising. Here's hoping the album is more 'Emancipation of Mimi'-esque than the mediocrity that was 'E=MC2'.

Official: Kelly Rowland Leaves Columbia Records (Statement)
Following yesterday's revelation that Kelly Rowland had been supposedly dropped by Columbia Records, both Rowland, 28, and Columbia have issued a joint press release. They confirmed that they fact that they have severed ties, yet stressing that it was a mutual decision - one, which if read between the lines, looks as if it was instigated by Rowland. Light is also shed on the future of Destiny's Child, who are signed with Columbia:
NEW YORK, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Grammy-winning R&B/pop superstar Kelly Rowland will no longer be recording with Columbia Records as a solo artist, it was officially announced today by the label.

Rowland, a founding member of Destiny's Child, the world's top-selling female group, will continue her relationship with Columbia Records in her ongoing role in the iconic ensemble.

"Because Columbia Records has been my home base as an artist for more than a decade, the decision to move out on my own required a lot of soul-searching," said Kelly Rowland. "As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges, and new freedoms outside my comfort zone and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution. I want to thank everyone at Columbia for the love and support they've shown and I will never forget how many good times we've had over the years."

"Kelly Rowland is one of our finest contemporary artists and a musical force to be reckoned with," said Rob Stringer, CEO, Columbia/Epic Label Music Group. "It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with Kelly and we will continue our working relationship with her under the Destiny's Child moniker. The decision for Kelly to seek other opportunities for her solo career was agreed upon mutually, and any reports to the contrary are false." {Source}
It's good to see all has been cleared up. Three things are very evident from this statement; 1) Kelly clearly knows she's worth more than what her solo success to-date shows   2) She is taking her career by the horns and making the moves to steer it in the direction she so deserves IMO - up! 3) Another Destiny's Child project of some sort is pretty much a certainty.

After a lengthy hiatus from the music scene, R&B singer Ginuwine is back with 'Last Chance', the first release from his forthcoming LP 'A Man's Thoughts' (due June 2nd). The video for the Bryan Michael Cox song, which sees Lisa Raye and Tyrese make cameos, isn't bad at all. My only gripe is that the choreography scenes come across kinda '1999'. Still a decent effort.

For those who haven't been able to keep up with the latest season of Making The Band 4, peep the vid above to see the drama that has been ensuing among the members of Day26. This is quickly looking to be Da Band / Danity Kane all over again. SMH...

Speaking of Danity Kane, let me first apologise for taking a short while to drop the D. Woods and Dawn interviews. They will both be ready to post no later than tomorrow (meaning anytime from now!). As I'm sure our loyal readers will know, That Grape Juice prides ourselves on serving up the very best interviews from your favourite Urban artist. Hence, unfortunately, sometimes it's a case of if it's not ready to roll out, it's not ready. That said, the interviews will be ready to post quicker than you can say 'Sam, the man, the Kelly Rowland stan'. Thanks for being so patient...I'm sure you'll enjoy reading them.

Kelly Rowland Dropped By Columbia Records
Reports are pouring in on the information highway that Kelly Rowland has been dropped by Columbia Records, her recording home since the start of her career. Check out the report below:
Former Destiny'S Child star Kelly Rowland has reportedly been dropped by her record label, just two months after firing her manager, former bandmate Beyonce Knowles' dad.

Despite the fact her first two solo albums sold more than four million copies, British tabloid News of The World reports the Dilemma singer has been dumped by bosses at Columbia (applies to the US and all other countries), because they fear she is "no longer commercially viable".

Rowland shot to fame in Destiny's Child in 1997 and released her first solo album, Simply Deep, in 2002. The album sold over three million copies worldwide.

The 28 year old started 2009 by splitting from longtime manager Mathew Knowles. {Source}
Wow! I guess this really does mean all ties are severed with her and the Music World / Columbia labels. Say what you will but I see this being a good thing for Ms. Kelly; a fresh start elsewhere and a definite break-away from the camp she's been a part of for pretty much the whole of her career. I'm more than sure many a label will be knocking at her door (that's if she's not signed elsewhere already), looking to turn her into the next big thing. How this all plays out in the months ahead will be very interesting. For the time being, official word is that Kelly is currently recording her new Project Runway-type TV show for Bravo in the States.

What do you think Kelly's next move should be?

Where should Kelly sign?

As Kelly Rowland continues work on her 3rd solo album, her collaboration with renown French DJ David Guetta has surfaced. The track, 'Love Takes Over', is very much a Dance cut, which is a departure from the sound we're used to hearing Kelly feature on. That said, while the song (and the genre generally) is a bit too 'busy' IMO, Kelly's vocals sound great and she's 'singing singing' like we know she can. Here's hoping we hear more of this kind of delivery with her next LP.

LeToya's 'Lady Love' Pushed Back; New Single Lined Up
After being serially delayed due to internal label re-structuring, LeToya Luckett's sophomore LP  'Lady Love' had been finally set for a May 19th release date. However, it has been confirmed that the album has been pushed back once again and will now arrive in stores on June 16th, avoiding a chart battle with Eminem (who is releasing 'Relapse' on May 19th) and giving way for the release of another single.

Luckett, 28, has gone on record to confirm that the Tank produced 'Regret' will be the follow-up to 'Not Anymore' (which isn't exactly setting the charts alight). Word has it the song is the business. I guess we'll know in time...

Britney, Justin To Join Jackson At Comeback Shows?
According to reports, Michael Jackson may be joined by some familiar faces at his comeback shows at London's 02:
Michael Jackson has reportedly asked Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake to join him on stage for some of the dates at his sell-out O2 concerts.

The star is said to be concerned that the performances could lose their "wow factor" due to the length of his 50-date residency, thelondonpaper reports.

An insider said: "Michael knows that stretching out all those shows and keeping it fresh is going to be hard, and one way to do this is to collaborate with some other big stars that he admires.

"The idea would be for them to do five dates each with him. As well as Britney and Justin, he's in talks with producer Timbaland about doing some of the dates too." {Source}
This is by no means far fetched, as Michael has taken to the stage with both in the past. That said, Beyonce and Kanye West, both of who will be in the country around the time, are much more exciting prospects IMO.

As the Pussycat Dolls ready the re-release of their 'Doll Domination (2.0)' LP (due April 14th), after the original tanked, a new cut from the set has surfaced called 'Painted Windows'. Though produced by the often-stellar Darkchild ('Feedback','When I Grow Up' etc), this Euro-Pop cut is, to put it bluntly, crap. That said, the the girls do get brownie points with this as Melody can actually be heard singing something other than 'oohh' and 'aahh', it's just a shame the song couldn't be better.

Megastar Beyonce kicked off her much anticipated 'I Am...Tour' last night in Rexall Place in Edmonton, Canada. Interestingly enough, there was a no-media rule enforced, meaning there will not be any professional pics from the show. Some reviewers are saying the fact such a small, remote town was used as the opening city was for no other reason than to do a 'paid dress rehearsal' of the show which is set to roll into big cities such as London, Paris and US territories later this Spring / Summer.  Anyway, enough of my rambling LOL, reviews thus far have given the show great feedback. Peep vids from the show below (quality isn't great, but best as of now) {Links updated!}:

Madonna To Adopt Another African Baby
According to reports, pop superstar and recent divorcee Madonna is set to adopt another child from African country Malawi:
Madonna has reportedly filed adoption papers for a second child ahead of a new visit to Malawi.

An official at the welfare department has confirmed that the pop superstar has formally applied to adopt another child from the country, The AP reports.

A second anonymous source claimed that Madonna would travel to Malawi this weekend and have an adoption case heard by a court as soon as Monday.

Madonna adopted David Banda from Malawi in 2006 and has long been rumoured to want another child from the country to be his brother or sister. {Source}

Timberlake NOT Working On New Album
Though reports that Justin Timberlake has been hard at work on his third studio album, the follow-up to 2006's 'FutureSexLoveSounds', the singer has gone on record recently to confirm that he is in fact has no concrete plans for a new album anytime soon:
Justin Timberlake fans, don't hold your breath waiting for a new album. Timberlake, whose last disc, FutureSex/LoveSounds, came out in 2006, tells EW that he's "not working" on new music right now. The singer -- who's executive producing a new MTV reality competition series called The Phone (premiering April 21) -- has been hitting the studio lately, but only to produce tracks for other artists, like T.I. ("Dead and Gone") and Ciara ("Love Sex Magic"). "Right now, I like the idea that things can just kind of pop up and if they feel right I can do them," says Timberlake. "Committing to my own sort of project, that’s like, 'Okay, let me block out two years of my life and do it.' I was heavily fulfilled with the last one and I always have this thing with myself that if I can’t sleep because I need to do it, then I’m gonna do it. But if I’m not losing sleep over it then…" {Source}
While I'm sure Justin's fans won't be too pleased, I can't say I'm particularly fussed. I seem to have been among the few that wasn't big on Justin's last effort. It's hard to deny his 'hit-making' ability on the collabo front...just ask Madonna, T.I and Ciara.

Our friend Nigel D over at Real Talk NY caught up with Keri Hilson yesterday in New York. In this really interesting interview, the singer sounds off at the haters who turned up to her album release party, the shadiness of the music industry as well as 'that' remix to 'Turnin' Me On (Off)'.

Say what you want about her, but she was making a lot of sense IMO. More power to her.

Tidbit: Keri's album 'In A Perfect World...' is looking set to debut at #3 with sales between 80,000- 90,000 sold first week. Not bad at all...all things considered.

Wedding Bells For Ashanti & Nelly?
After for more than 4 years of dating, reports are suggesting Ashanti and Nelly are finally set to tie the knot this year:
R&B star ASHANTI has hinted she will marry her rapper lover NELLY in 2009.

Just four months after the couple went public with its four year romance, the singer has confessed she is planning to walk down the aisle with Nelly.

When asked if wedding bells were on the horizon for her, the Happy hitmaker tells Us Weekly, "Absolutely. It's in the cards for me. I believe that I have a couple more things I need to do before that happens."

But Ashanti urges fans not to believe all the gossip that's written about her and Nelly - despite the media correctly predicting their relationship, years before they admitted it to the world.

She adds, "I should have had six or seven kids, been married three times and secretly engaged now. But none of it's true." {Source}
A big congratulations to them, if true. It goes to show, there actually are some relationships that can last the distance in the crazy world that is the entertainment industry.

It's been well-documented that Pop star Britney Spears is currently on what is being billed as her 'comeback tour'. While her fans are no doubt pleased to have the singer back, critics haven't been favourable with their words about 'The Circus Tour', with many taking displeasure in the fact that Spears lip-syncs all-but-one song during her set. Others claim Britney gets lost in the shuffle amidst the grandeur and spectacle of the production, while some note her dancing consists of not much more than strutting up and down the stage.

With the show set to roll into Europe in the coming months (with Ciara opening), we're anxious to hear what those who have seen the show already thought? Watched the tour vids on Youtube? What's your take on the show?

R&B crooner Mario has been hard at work on 4th studio album for a while now, and the fruit of his efforts have begun to surface - most recently in the form of 'Afraid 2 Cry (Hardest Moment)'. The word which resoundingly comes to mind upon listening to the song is 'refreshing'. Refreshing lyrically, refreshing in terms of vocal delivery (on-point!), refreshing when compared to a lot of the bubble-gum nonsense Mario's contemporaries have been serving up. Simply, refreshing.

With each of his albums, it's evident Mario's growing artistically - something I'm feeling to be the case with his forthcoming release - judging by this taster. Roll on the album's release.

Mary J Cast As Lead In New Tyler Perry Movie
According to Billboard, R&B royalty Mary J. Blige is set to make her foray into the acting world later this year, after being cast in Tyler Perry's latest movie 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself':
Mary J. Blige is set to star in Tyler Perry's forthcoming Lionsgate film, "I Can Do Bad All By Myself." Scheduled for nationwide release September 11, 2009, the film also stars Academy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson.

Based on Perry¹s stage play of the same name, the film centers around Blige's character Tanya, a nightclub manager, and her good friend April, played by Henson. Also part of the cast is Perry's comedic alter ego, Madea. Principal photography is already under way at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.

Blige is also set to guest in a popular primetime television series, which will be announced at a later date. She previously appeared on HBO's "Entourage" in 2007. The singer/songwriter is recording songs as well for the follow-up to her 2007 Matriarch/Geffen album, "Growing Pains." The new album slated for release later this year.

Christina Milian & The-Dream Kissing
So much for Christina Milian and The-Dream's denials about their rumored relationship; the pair were snapped yesterday looking very 'coupley' (kissing, canoodling etc) in Hawaii.

Ever since it was announced that Milian had entered a joint label venture with Dream's Radio Killa imprint and her current label home MySpace Records/Interscope, tongues have been wagging as to what the pair's status is - which these pics seem to confirm.

While their relationship is their own business (LOL), I sure hope their union yields better results than Christina's last singer / producer romance with Dre (of Cool & Dre), which spawn her awful 'So Amazing' LP. I guess time will tell...

As R&B star Monica readies her brand new album for release later this year, the set's supposed first single has surfaced. 'One In A Lifetime' is a mid-tempo number with a 'knock'. Speaking of which, it's been confirmed that the album will be re-released as 'Doll Domination 2.0' in April and will feature new cuts, with production by Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins.

Hmm...Crappy material aside, the actual formula of the group just feels off (Nicole and the backing dancers); people simply aren't buying into it anymore. I say give Ms. Melody something other than random riffs and runs and they may just re-spark mass interest in themselves again. SMH...

Kanye Charged Over Paparazzi ScuffleRapper Kanye West is facing up to 30 months in jail after being charged for a scuffle he had with a paparazzo last year:
LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Superstar US rapper Kanye West has been charged with assault, theft and vandalism related to a September 2008 incident involving paparazzi at Los Angeles' LAX airport, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

The 31-year-old Grammy-award-winning musician could face up to 30 months in prison.

West was arrested on September 11 after the airport altercation in which West and his manager Don Crawley "confronted, and engaged in an altercation with, two photographers," the LA attorney's office said in a statement.

Crawley, 33, was also charged on two counts of battery, two counts of theft and two counts of vandalism, and faces a possible five years in prison.

The incident was caught on video tape, widely viewed on the Internet, which shows West and Crawley wrestling camera equipment from photographers and smashing it on the ground.

The two men are set for arraignment in Los Angeles on April 14.

The incident took place early in the morning as West prepared to board an airplane, while paparazzi tried to photograph and film him.

Reports at the time found the camera equipment was valued at over 10,000 dollars. Police arrested West as he tried to board his plane. {Source}
It's well known the paparazzi can get out of hand, yet it's still no excuse to lash out with violence. Kanye should know it all comes with the territory and no one is above the law. I can't see much coming from this, though...

The-Dream and the latest signee to his Radio Killa imprint, Christina Milian, stopped by Big Boy's Neighborhood radio show this week to discuss their 'business relationship', Milian's new LP 'Elope' and much more.

These two really did little to dispel the rumors that they are an item LOL...

Tidbit: The-Dream's 'Love vs Money' album is set to debut at #2 on the Billboard 200, with sales in the region of 150, 000. Not bad at all.

Alexandra To Work With Akon, Pharrell
When X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke signed a $3 Million US deal with Epic last month, it quickly became apparent that a 'worldwide superstar' is what label honchos are anticipating the 20 year old become. Therefore it comes as little surprise that some of the US biggest hitmakers have been drafted in for Burke's debut LP (due November), in the form of Akon and Pharrell Williams:
Akon, super producer and international rapper has signed up to help produce Alexandra Burke’s debut album.

Only yesterday it was reported that Miss Burke would also be working alongside none other than N*E*R*D and The Neptunes front man Pharrell Williams.

Akon has already worked with Leona Lewis and told tabloid newspaper The Daily Star: "I've had calls to work with Alex and I'm going to do it. I love the X Factor and I love helping to break new artists."

The newspaper claims that Alexandra is over the moon about working with Skateboard P "She can't believe her luck. She's a massive fan and thinks Pharrell will help her distance herself from Leona (Lewis) comparisons.”

With Pharrell onboard as well, the record label are basically making sure that Burke’s debut album is an international hit. {Source}
I'm definitely anticipating Alexandra's debut. Her all-rounder nature has me genuinely excited as to what she and the enlisted producers will come up with.

50 Cent To Release 2 New Albums This Year
MTV caught up with rapper 50 Cent recently, with the G-Unit general exclusively revealing that he is readying not one, but two album's for release this year:
"What they don't know ... the new announcement is that I'm dropping two albums," Fif smiled. "I've had an opportunity to record since I thought I was releasing an album in December. But the portion of my record that I recorded with Dr. Dre was incomplete, because there was no opportunity to mix it. The only song that was mixed that I worked on with Dr. Dre is 'I Get It In' — that one is out now. It's cool, but I need the rest of them to be mixed before I can present my project to the public."

Fif projects Before I Self Destruct will drop in June, after Eminem's Relapse hits stores on May 19 — and 50's second album will come one month after Em's second album, according to the current game plan.
With 50's relevance in today's Hip-Hop world dwindling at a rapid rate, I'm itching to see how well these records perform. Ol' Curtis couldn't catch a hit with any of his recently released material (See: 'I Get It In')and yet still feels 2 albums are gonna do something. I guess time will tell, but I can't say it's looking good.

Randomness: What happened to Ja Rule's 'comeback'?

Check out Lil' Kim's 2nd week performance on Dancing With The Stars. The rapper and dance partner Derek Hough performed a Ballroom routine, much to the pleasure of the judges. Kim really is doing her thing on the show. More power to her.

While the news of Michael Jackson's return to the stage has largely been greeted by mass positivity, there seems to be select arms of the media, as well as the public, who seem to question whether today's Michael can still 'thrill' like times of past. Though being snapped in wheelchairs and looking somewhat frail in recent years hasn't helped his cause, MJ hasn't actually had a wack performance or flopped on the dancing tip for folk to be so steadfast in their 'he can't do it' stance.

A lot of MJ's more recent work and performances have unfairly been overlooked for one reason or the other, yet this performance of Billie Jean at his 2001/2002 30th Anniversary special, shows that even as the Michael of today he can still deliver one hell of a performance. THIS is the Michael I'm expecting to show at the London 02 this summer. This is the Michael that I really feel will silence the naysayers. Roll on July!

Lady GaGa: 'I Used To Be A Stripper'
One of the industry's biggest break-out stars in recent times, Lady GaGa, spoke recently on her 'colourful' past as well as the inevitability of her rise to stardom:
POP sensation Lady GaGa, quite outrageous in her music videos, used to be a stripper.

“I have a strong sense of my own sexuality. I love the naked human body and I have huge body confidence,” she tells the News of the World newspaper in the UK.

“I was working in strip clubs when I was 18. Girls from my background weren’t meant to turn into someone like me.

"I come from a wealthy Italian family, went to a good school (she was at the same super-rich Manhattan Catholic girls’ school - Convent Of The Sacred Heart - as Paris Hilton). You’re meant to live with Mom and Dad until they die.

"I went against all I was brought up to be; I moved out of home, wouldn’t take any help from my parents (her internet entrepreneur dad and his business partner wife) and supported myself with waitressing jobs and stripping.

“My act was pretty wild. I’d wear black leather and dance to Black Sabbath, Guns N’ Roses and Faith No More. Very rock ’n’ roll.”

The woman wrote songs for Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls before deciding she wanted a taste of the limelight. She transformed herself from a brunette in braces and jeans to the bleached blonde siren.

“Some people are just born stars,” she says.

“You either have it or you haven’t, and I was definitely born one.

“Even as a kid I always had eyes on me, like bees on honey. I was always outrageous and I was always very smart.

Rihanna Talks Money, Relationships & New LP
According reports, Rihanna is being lined up to play Whitney Houston's role in a remake of 'The Bodyguard':
Battered singer Rihanna could soon be singing ‘I will always love you’ but not to bad boy lover Chris Brown, instead for a new acting role in Whitney Houston’s Bodyguard. Insiders claim Rihanna’s return to the public eye in New York over the weekend was not only to party to but to discuss acting work.

She has been linked to talks to star in a ‘younger and sexy’ take on Houston and Kevin Costner’s 1992 box office smash. The 21-year-old is reportedly poised to take on Whitney’s role while G.I Joe heartthrob Channing Tatum could take on Costner’s role. ‘Before the situation with Chris, Ri was getting a lot of scripts. She’s been wanting to do movies for a while now,’ a source claimed.

She is also linked to a new Charlie’s Angel film, while she works on her new album. Her team are currently dismissing acting plans. Houston, 45, reached out to Rihanna, telling, ‘Don’t make the same mistakes I did’, following claims the Barbadian star was hit by Brown before the Grammys in February. {Source}
This one would be real interesting to see. I'm constantly left scratching my head as to why success on the chart is supposed to translate into great acting ability. I mean from what I've seen, Ms. Fenty isn't just lacking in the musical talent department, her acting skills leave a lot to be desired. While I'm really not big on directly comparing artists, I genuinely feel someone like Beyonce (whose acting has been at best 'so-so') would be more suited to the role. I sure as hell know the soundtrack would be ALOT better. Granted the film would likely come with new tracks, Rihanna's take on 'I Will Always Love You (Eh Eh Eh)' would be a must see.
