Jay-Z's much-hyped 'Answer The Call' 9/11 charity concert took place in New York's Madison Square Garden last night (and aired on FUSE). A host of fellow artists joined the rapper, whose Blueprint 3 LP aptly dropped this week, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Kid Kudi and John Mayer. Check out the performances below:

Run This Town / Can't Tell Me Nothing (w/ Rihanna & Kanye)

Already Home, Heart of the City, D.O.A (w/ Kid Kudi & John Mayer)

Young Forever & Medley (/ Memphis Bleek + Diddy Shows Up)

Can't Knock The Hustle (w/ Mary J. Blige)

Empire State of Mind

I really enjoyed all the performances, though I must say Ms. Fenty did remind me why she doesn't get my support with her live performing (no stage presence+annoying yoodling+no believe'ablity=not hot).

What do you think of the performances?

Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West On The Set Of 'Run This Town' VideoMy goodness has it been a slow news-day today or what. Anyway...

Check out these brand spanking new shots from the set of the video for Jay-Z's new single 'Run This Town' - featuring Rihanna and Kanye West. The clip for the all-star song was directed by Anthony Mandler.

While I continue to question the idea of one of the song's ultra-nasal feature artists running anything (I wonder who?), these pics have me feeling like the video may just be a winner.

Do you feel Jay-Z, Kanye, and Rihanna 'run' the industry?

Jay-Z - 'Run This Town (ft. Rihanna & Kanye West)' (New Single)
With Jay-Z's much anticipated 'The Blueprint 3' nearing its September 11th release, the next single to be lifted from the record 'Run This Town' has surfaced. Featuring former Def Jam label mates Rihanna and Kanye West, Hova has gone on record to say the track is named as such because they are the folk that 'run' the industry (hmm...).

While I'm feeling the track's 'epic' feel, along with Jay and Kanye's verses, I couldn't stomach Rihanna's part on the hook. Ms. Fenty was on her extra-nasal game on this one, which makes it a few pig-squeals away from being un-listenable. That said, the song still kinda manages to work.

R&B star Chris Brown has broken his 5 month silence. The 'With You' singer finally spoke to the media - via this new video - about his much publicized assault of former girlfriend Rihanna back in February and offered his sincerest apologies.

I know what my thoughts are on this one, but I'd far more like to hear what you guys are thinking about Chris' apology...

Rihanna Unveils New Hair Do
Your favourite 'artist' and mine Rihanna was spotted out and about at the Italian eatery Da Silvano in New York sporting a new shaved hair do, Cassie-style.

As much as Rihanna doesn't rock my world, it's hard to deny her position as a fashion trendsetter. So, it's kinda weird to now see her jumping on the shaved head bandwagon, which in itself is already full with the likes of La La Vasquez, Amelle from the Sugababes, of course Ms. Spread-Her-Legs herself Cassie and all the chicks in your local mall. I guess Ms. Fenty's fashion-sense and image is as authentic as her music. It's not.

Chris Brown Avoids Jail TimeAfter a tumultuous 4 months, singer Chris Brown is breathing a sigh of relief today after copping a plea deal in the assault case involving former lover Rihanna. Peep the report below:

R&B star CHRIS BROWN has avoided a jail spell after he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend RIHANNA.
He made the plea just hours before the former couple was due to come face to face in court in Los Angeles.

Brown, 20, was ordered to serve 180 hours community service in his home state of Virginia and told he must stay away from Rihanna.

He will also serve five years probation for felony assault, and his progress with be monitored by the court at regular intervals.

The singer was also made to enrol in a domestic violence counselling program, according to US website TMZ.com.

Shocking pics, released earlier this year, showed how Rihanna had been left beaten and bruised following a fight with her ex on the evening of the Grammy awards in February.

The Caribbean-born songstress arrived at court dressed in all black, a sign she may have been expecting the worst.

A bystander said: "It looked as if she was going to a funeral." {Source}

While I'm sure many will hold their own opinions on this, I'll just glad the media circus surrounding this all can begin to subside. That said, it will be real interesting to see if Chris can resurrect his career Lazarus-style, as the funeral for his career was held when that now infamous battered Rihanna pic made the global rounds.

Rihanna Lends Help To SugababesAs the UK's top girl group the Sugababes ready their US label debut on Jay-Z's Roc Nation, the ladies have revealed that none other than Rihanna has been advising them on the material for the record:

Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan says the trio have struck up a close friendship with Rihanna while recording in America.

Rihanna has become the "fourth Sugababe".

The 'Umbrella' singer has been advising the British trio - who have signed a record deal with Jay-Z's Roc-a-Fella label - while they are recording in America and has struck up such a close bond with the 'Ugly' stars, they have grown to regard her as part of the band.

Singer Keisha Buchanan - who makes up the group with Amelle Berrabah and Heidi Range - told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "We keep missing Jay-Z. Every time we're gonna hook up he's off partying with Diddy or someone, but Rihanna has been a huge help to us. She's been like our fourth members, listening to all our songs and saying what she liked and what she didn't."

Keisha also heaped praise on new singer Cherri V, who releases her debut single 'Until The Sun Comes Up' next week, for her "refreshing" sound.

She added: "I'm so pleased she's breaking through. Her sound is so refreshing." {Source}

Interesting. I say this as it's funny Rihanna is lending her advice on their material, when all signs point to her own material being selected for and dictated to her!! LOL. Also notable is the fact that all three members can sing circles and then some around Ms. Fenty. Not being mean, just saying...

Randomness: Just came off the phone with my friend who made a really valid point IMO. RiRi really needs to hit the studio sometime soon (or be seen to), as she's merely a few paparrazzi shots off becoming a full-fledged socialite.

Despite the drama that still surrounds Chris Brown, the 20 year old star insists his forthcoming album will be his biggest yet:
Though the case against Chris Brown for the alleged assault on Rihanna earlier this year continues to play out in Los Angeles courtrooms, a friend of Brown's says the singer is doing his best to move forward and concentrate on work.

"Chris is focused," says songwriter Robert Allen, who is working with Brown on his upcoming album, tentatively titled Graffiti. "He knows how to deal with whatever is going on and is willing to do what he has to do to please his fans."

To do that, Brown plans to bring a different vibe to his music. "It's not particularly just R&B," says Allen, who has worked on songs with Brown in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. "Chris is trying different things and experimenting. We've been making things really eclectic. The direction of this album is really fun and free spirited. It's like a collage."

Brown, who had been keeping a low profile for about three months, recently broke his silence in a YouTube.com video, in which he declared, "I ain't a monster."

"You want to go away so your audience can miss you some," Allen says of why Brown has laid low. "But he's so happy and ready for this next album to break through and make a big impact. He wants this to be his masterpiece. He's predicting this will be his biggest album." {Source}
I must say, I'm real surprised he's pressing ahead with a new release so soon. Yes, the industry is fickle but not that fickle. The magnitude of what Chris is actually embroiled in doesn't quite seem like it's settled in the minds of Chris or whichever label honcho is actually gonna allow a release during or very near to legal proceedings against him.

Rihanna To Testify Against Chris Brown
The on-going saga between Rihanna and Chris Brown steam-rolls on, with the 'Umbrella' singer now confirmed to testify against Brown in court next month:
Prosecutors plan to call Rihanna as a witnesses during a hearing in Chris Brown's assault case, her attorney said Thursday. Donald Etra told reporters that prosecutors have told him the Barbados-born singer will receive a subpoena to testify at a preliminary hearing June 22. The hearing will focus on whether there is enough evidence to continue the case against Brown.

Brown was arrested in February on suspicion of hitting and choking Rihanna, then his girlfriend, in a rented car hours before the couple were scheduled to appear at the Grammys. Rihanna has not been formally been named as the victimn in police or prosecutors' reports.

Etra said Thursday Rihanna will comply with the order. If she is called to testify, the 21-year-old singer would be subject to cross-examination by Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos.

A judge on Thursday rejected as premature a motion by Geragos to receive police and investigative records related to the case and the apparent leak of a photo of a beaten and bruised Rihanna.

Brown wasn't in court Thursday, but he's required to attend the preliminary hearing. {Source}
It's safe to say that with Rihanna testifying, what's more on a date that Chris Brown compulsorily has to attend, the media will be all over this one. As much as this situation has been drawn out and over-reported since February, this upcoming court date sure will be one to watch.

In other Chris Brown news, check out the singer recently talking about his forthcoming album, and declaring that he 'is not a monster':

Shocking: Nude Rihanna Pics Hit The Net!!!
First Cassie earlier this week, and now Rihanna; *fully* nude pictures of the 'Umbrella' singer have surfaced within the last hour on Perez Hilton. We won't be posting the pictures here for several reasons, however Google is your friend LOL. Peep the report below, though:
RIHANNA has become the latest star caught up in a nude photo scandal after salacious snapshots allegedly featuring the singer were posted online on Friday (08May09).

Rihanna’s face can clearly be seen in shots that show the Umbrella singer stripping provocatively for the camera, but other photos show only segments of a woman's naked body.

The most incriminating full-length shot appears to feature the sexy star partially clothed taking a photograph of herself in the mirror of a large hotel suite bathroom. The messages 'I love you' and 'I miss you' are written on the mirror.

The girl in the photo definitely looks like Rihanna, but the subject's face is covered by a BlackBerry phone camera.

The seven pictures led to websites like Imagehaven.net almost crashing as fans stormed the Internet looking for the scandalous photos, which reports suggest were taken at The London hotel in West Hollywood, where Rihanna once stayed with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.

The new photos come just days after Rihanna made her first public appearance following an alleged fight with Brown in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards in February (09).

The R&B star performed briefly alongside Kanye West at the Costume Institute Gala in New York on Monday (04May09).

Brown still faces jail time if he's found guilty of allegedly beating his then-girlfriend and threatening to kill her during the fight. {Source}
WOOOOOWWWWW!!! This week has actually been nuts with all the celebrity ta-ta's and va-jay-jay's being seen across the net! Rihanna is the last person I'd expect to see this from; why, I don't know...I just wouldn't expect it. That said, it's interesting that it's the non-singing singers that this has been happening to. I really didn't want to bring her name in this, but you wouldn't see this from a Beyonce for example. Being so high-profile, taking such pics to begin with is always gonna be risque. SMH...

What this means for Rihanna career-wise will be interesting to see...

During Rihanna's most recent return to Barbados this past weekend, the 21 year old joined Beenie Man onstage at the 'Reggae On The Hill' music festival.

While giving a rendition of Ms. Fenty's 'Umbrella', the dancehall legend switched up the lyrics, and took aim at Chris Brown, singing:

“Me no have no fancy car, but me nah give you no scar”

Is it wrong to find this just a tad funny?! LOL. That said, it must not have been that comfortable of a situation for Rihanna who, after waving to the crowd for a bit, walked off the stage - seemingly ignoring Beenie Man's requests to come back on. Ouch...

Rihanna Preps Stage Return
After 3 months of musical inactivity, for reasons we're all more than aware of (See: Chris Brown), Rihanna is set to hit return to the stage in Dubai next month:
Rihanna is set for her comeback. The “Disturbia” star’s first performance since her altercation with Chris Brown will be a May 28 concert in Dubai, E! News confirms.

“There will be over 25,000 tickets available,” says Mary Rachelle Cherpak, a spokeswoman for Dubai Tourism. “They will be going on sale in the next couple of days.”

Though the location is still TBD, she says it will most likely be a designer outdoor venue.

Says Cherpak: “Normally they create a special stage in the desert for these events.”

Rihanna had been scheduled to perform at the Grammys on Feb. 8, but she canceled just before the ceremony following the incident with Brown. Her last concert was Jan. 29 in Los Angeles. {Source}
While I commend Ms. Fenty for getting back to her business, I can't say the prospect of her performing excites me in the slightest (See: Pig Squealing, Plank of Wood, etc).

Rihanna Talks Money, Relationships & New LP
According reports, Rihanna is being lined up to play Whitney Houston's role in a remake of 'The Bodyguard':
Battered singer Rihanna could soon be singing ‘I will always love you’ but not to bad boy lover Chris Brown, instead for a new acting role in Whitney Houston’s Bodyguard. Insiders claim Rihanna’s return to the public eye in New York over the weekend was not only to party to but to discuss acting work.

She has been linked to talks to star in a ‘younger and sexy’ take on Houston and Kevin Costner’s 1992 box office smash. The 21-year-old is reportedly poised to take on Whitney’s role while G.I Joe heartthrob Channing Tatum could take on Costner’s role. ‘Before the situation with Chris, Ri was getting a lot of scripts. She’s been wanting to do movies for a while now,’ a source claimed.

She is also linked to a new Charlie’s Angel film, while she works on her new album. Her team are currently dismissing acting plans. Houston, 45, reached out to Rihanna, telling, ‘Don’t make the same mistakes I did’, following claims the Barbadian star was hit by Brown before the Grammys in February. {Source}
This one would be real interesting to see. I'm constantly left scratching my head as to why success on the chart is supposed to translate into great acting ability. I mean from what I've seen, Ms. Fenty isn't just lacking in the musical talent department, her acting skills leave a lot to be desired. While I'm really not big on directly comparing artists, I genuinely feel someone like Beyonce (whose acting has been at best 'so-so') would be more suited to the role. I sure as hell know the soundtrack would be ALOT better. Granted the film would likely come with new tracks, Rihanna's take on 'I Will Always Love You (Eh Eh Eh)' would be a must see.

Rihanna & Chris Brown Record 'Love' Duet
As if the media hysteria surrounding Rihanna and Chris Brown couldn't get anymore, it seems the couple (who recently reconciled) are feeding into it all by recording a duet to affirm their 'love' for each other. Check out the report via TMZ below:
TMZ now has all the details about the secret late-night recording sessions between Rihanna and Chris Brown -- and they were jam-packed with emotion and serious drama, with some playful touching -- seriously.

The whole thing came together when they decided to reconcile shortly after the attack. Sources tell us music producer Polow Da Don convinced both Chris and Rihanna to get in the studio and record a love song stat, stressing that timing was important because the heightened emotions would translate powerfully into the music.

Both Rihanna and Chris agreed and snuck in a couple of "late night" sessions that we're told were "very, very emotional ... the feeling in the room was pure love." Clearly, love hurts.

As for how they got along, they were "playfully touching each other."

We're told the song was originally written for Rihanna before the fight, but after the beat down the producer believed the track -- which ironically focuses on overcoming difficult challenges as a couple -- would be the perfect duet.
As much as their respective PR teams must think putting on a 'united front' will redeem Chris in the court of public opinion and ease the matter, I just don't see that happening. I retract my statement on Rihanna coming out the winner in all of this. If the reported 'media blitz' the two plan on doing, which also includes a stop on Oprah, turns out to be true, I see many people being even more turned off - by them both. IMO the idealist of scenarios would be for them to sit down...fall back...lay low - at least for now. The media have kinda gone overboard with it all and many a folk are sick of seeing the issue pimped.

Any thoughts?
