LeToya - 'Good To Me'
Regular readers will know that I felt LeToya Luckett's sophomore effort 'Lady Love' was a little too-ballad heavy (a view, for the most part, I still hold). However having given the album a few more spins, it definitely has A LOT of grower potential and is steadily winning me over - no track moreso than 'Good To Me'.

The bouncy mid-tempo is best summed up as fire on a track! While listening to this one I was literally saying: "LeToya Nicole Luckett, you better SANG!". Definitely one of the tracks which showcase Ms. Luckett's greatly improved vocals. Awesome track, one that should surely be considered as a single.

LeToya Predicted To Sell 25k-30k First Week
According to Hits Daily Double, R&B singer LeToya's sophomore effort 'Lady Love' is set to debut at #6 on the Billboard 200 album chart with sales in the region of 25,000 - 30, 000.

Regardless of which way this is spun, it's not a good look for Ms. Luckett. With the album growing on me daily and it's all-round great reception, one would have hoped that the sales would reflect it's quality. Unfortunately this doesn't look like it'll be the case. At this point it appears it'll be an up-hill struggle hitting Gold.

With LeToya being a skilled vocalist, not to mention her media and business savviness, I'd say a move to another label is pretty much a necessity for her to acheive the success she deserves. It's been a well-known fact for sometime that her label (Captiol/EMI/Virgin) have been having a lot of difficulties - hence the many delays this album - which was due out early last year - has had. SMH...

Update: Check out LeToya's recent UStream video chat session with her fans, where she talks about not being satisfied with her promotion. (LaTavia is also a guest) Word has it Toya has switched management, as recent as 2 weeks ago, to Alicia Keys' manager Jeff Robinson of MBK management. Anyways, peep the vid:

LeToya's 'Lady Love': Will You be Buying?
R&B singer LeToya releases her long-awaited sophomore LP 'Lady Love' today, three years after her self-titled first album shot to #1.

Having heard the album in it's entirety, I must say I enjoyed a few cuts (see: 'Lazy', 'Good To Me' and 'Lady Love'). However I feel like the album is just too slow. Coming from her Destiny's Child background, the awesome balance (between uptempo, midtempo and slow jams) on her first album, and her all-round commercial potential, makes the slow-go nature of this album all the more baffling. Depending on what floats your boat, this is an all-out R&B/Slow Jam affair, with little in the way of cross-over appeal. The latter of which kinda irks me because LeToya so has the right personality and media savviness to sustain in the 'big leagues', yet the material here seems intent on keeping her (I'd even go as far as to say 'boxing her') as solely an R&B balladeer. Whether this factors into the dismal promotion she has had thus far is anyone's guess. However if I'm to be honest, I'm already thinking about how I'd personally A & R her 3rd album.

I feel like I'm babbling now lol. Anyway, we here at That Grape Juice want to know what you think of LeToya's 'Lady Love'....

Will you be buying it?

With the release of LeToya Luckett's sophomore effort 'Lady Love' just days away, the singer gave the first televised performance of new single 'She Ain't Got' on KTLA yesterday.

The performance itself was 'ok', however my biggest gripe is the lack of promotion for LeToya's project thus far. For this to be her first televised live showing, with the album release so near by is a hot mess. This is made worse by the fact that instead of performing on BET and likewise networks and shows, she's on KTLA (?!). I really hope Ms. Luckett's promo picks up...fast, as she's deserving of much better treatment.

What do you think of the performance?

Some the That Grape Juice faithful who visted the site yesterday would have noticed the brief posting about being able to preview LeToya's new 'Lady Love' LP on Amazon. Well it turns out it was a glitch on Amazon's part, so big that not only were folk able to preview the whole album...they were able to but it too!

Thankfully for LeToya, who we're big supporters of here at That Grape Juice, the damage seems to be limited with little of anything floating around the net from the record. That said, the full version of 'Lazy' did 'surface'. I'm really liking this one, it's a mid-tempo with that 'knock'.

Seemingly one of the few who got to preview the album, I'm kinda on the fence. Perhaps due to LeToya's Destiny's Child beginning, I have been itching for a bit more variety in terms of her tracks, most of which on this album seem very much to be mid-tempos about very similar topics. With LeToya evidently being able to do her thing on the uptempo tip (See: 'All Eyes On Me', 'Tear The Club Up', 'I'm Good'), I'd definitely love to see her go down that route a bit more, for she's risking being typecast as the soppy mid-tempo balladeer. Nonetheless, I'm still anticipating 'Lady Love' (due August 25th via Capitol/EMI).

LeToya Luckett has hit the television promo trail in support of her new album 'Lady Love', most recently stopping by ABC News' What's The Buzz. The R&B star spoke on a number of things including, of course, the new record and her latest acting roles - which includes a movie with Ashton Kutcher.

Most interestingly, when asked the oh-so-expected Beyonce/Destiny's Child questions, LeToya revealed she'd be open to a Destiny's Child reunion. Notable, in that it's the first time she's been asked this on-air. With Destiny's Child now having spent the majority of their professional careers as a Beyonce, Kelly, and Michelle, it sure would be interesting to see how would work out. That said, if ever billed as a tour/special with all the ladies, it would definitely amp the anticipation even more. One can dream...

Tidbit: Did anyone else find it funny that the show was playing the 'Say My Name' video when LeToya wasn't even in it? LOL.

LeToya - 'Regret (ft. Ludacris)'The full version of 'Regret' from LeToya Luckett's forthcoming sophomore effort 'Lady Love' surfaced today, and now features none other than Ludracris. Produced by R&B crooner Tank, the mid-tempo is somewhat of a audio juxtaposition in that it manages to be both a smooth, piano driven Slow Jam, yet gritty and edgy at the same time. Luda's verse works surprisingly well too.

Saying that, the song doesn't really rock my world in the way I've heard many hyping it to. As a Toya supporter, I'm hoping the album serves up the goodies, as thus far it seems like it's a bit hit and miss. About 'Regret' though...

Hard on the grind for her 'Lady Love' project, LeToya Luckett performed a set in Dallas over the weekend for 'Hip-Hop For HIV Awareness'. Peep her performance of new single 'She Aint Got...' above.

Good performance aside, a little underground drama popped off on the back of this one.

Notice how at the start LeToya does an acapella of previously heard new song 'Regret' singing: "Now you're at the bar with 1, 2, 3. Poppin' game, ya look so lame, without me your pimpin' ain't the same". Immediately after, just before launching into 'She Ain't Got...', she then says to the crowd "I know ya'll know who I'm talking about!". To date, LeToya's only public romance has been with fellow Houston native Slim Thug.

Further adding fuel to the fire, Slim Thug took to his official Twitter page not long after saying: "If u a R&b singer chick fuck with me Ima make u go platinum.. Give u helluva songs torn,regret,not anymore,she ain’t got etc…gnr".

I guess things aren't as cool between the former couple as we've been led to believe. Hmmm...

The video for the second single from LeToya's 'Lady Love' LP, 'She Ain't Got' premiered a few hours ago. Directed by Bryan Barber the clip marks the first time we've seen the singer take the uptempo route for a single and it works fantastically. Put simply, Ms. Luckett nailed it. Though I'm a little on the fence about the budget (then again, there's a recession going on), the video does an awesome job of capturing the ferocious essence of the song. The attitude, the swagger, the choreography...all really good. Here's hoping this the gas which gets her project moving. 'Lady Love' hits stores August 25th.

Tidbit: This is exactly how I envisioned the 'All Eyes On Me' video from LeToya's debut. While some of LeToya's mid-tempo's are standouts, I must say I really prefer her uptempo offerings.

What do you think of the video?

While the release date of LeToya Luckett's sophomore effort 'Lady Love' still up in the air, new material from the set has surfaced in the form of 'Don't Need You'. Produced by Madd Scientist (Beyonce & Jay-Z's 'Hollywood'), the mid-tempo ballad is a cleverly written take on oft-tackled issue of relationships. The cut also really illuminates the fact that LeToya's voice has really matured with this new record.

Having been somewhat on the fence with much of Ms. Luckett's new material (sorry, but 'Not Anymore' was not cutting it), I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about 'Lady Love' after hearing this.

We've received official word from LeToya Luckett's team that 'She Ain't Got Sh!t' on me is the album's next single. Click here to listen to the song, if you've not heard it yet...

I'm glad they went with this; it's the best I've heard from LeToya's new material thus far.

In other LeToya news, check out Ms. Luckett belting out the US national anthem at the Lakers vs Rockets basketball game last week:

Wow. She did great; her voice really has matured a lot.

LeToya's 'Lady Love' Delayed Again + Updates
In news that will no doubt disappoint LeToya Luckett fans, her much anticipated sophmore LP 'Lady Love' has been pushed back from it's May release to June 23rd. The album, which is set to drop via Capital Records, has already been slated to drop on several different dates prior to now. Here's hoping this one sticks. {Source}

The album's delay seems to be down to strategic reasons (i.e. create space for the release of two singles etc), hence LeToya's promo schedule is looking a little different at the minute. Therefore, our interview with Ms. Luckett has also been pushed back a little. It's coming real soon; I'll be sure to keep you guys posted!

Meanwhile, check out two new clips from 'Lady Love', the LP's 2nd single 'Regret' (produced by Tank) and 'Matter' (produced Warren Field Oaker), by clicking below:

* Regret

* Matter

Both sound pretty good, 'Matter' more so IMO. That said, I'm still waiting to hear that 'All Eyes On Me' - esque banger from her this go round!

Check out this snippet of the title track from LeToya Luckett's sophomore LP 'Lady Love'. While full judgement will be given upon hearing the track in it's entirety, I must say I'm liking how LeToya really seems to have evolved with her material with this 2nd CD - judging by the cuts heard thus far.

LeToya's 'Lady Love' Pushed Back; New Single Lined Up
After being serially delayed due to internal label re-structuring, LeToya Luckett's sophomore LP  'Lady Love' had been finally set for a May 19th release date. However, it has been confirmed that the album has been pushed back once again and will now arrive in stores on June 16th, avoiding a chart battle with Eminem (who is releasing 'Relapse' on May 19th) and giving way for the release of another single.

Luckett, 28, has gone on record to confirm that the Tank produced 'Regret' will be the follow-up to 'Not Anymore' (which isn't exactly setting the charts alight). Word has it the song is the business. I guess we'll know in time...

LeToya Covers Sister 2 Sister
R&B star LeToya features on the cover of the April / May issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine. The former Destiny's Child singer, who I must say looks great here, is currently promoting her new album 'Lady Love' (due May 19th) as well as new single 'Not Anymore' (available on iTunes).
