SPOILERS.
So...today (Monday) I had the chance to see a few of the dress rehearsals for the BET Awards tomorrow. Some good, some surprises, and some disappointments.
First up was the tribute performances to Al Green. Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott (I was bummed cause she couldn't make the rehearsal), and Maxwell will all sing classic Al Green songs...Maxwell was off the chain. Then Al Green came out and sang Let's Stay Together and Love and Happiness...he smashed it, it's crazy because it was a young crowd, but he got everyone hyped!
Next, T Pain had his time. I wasn't expecting much from him, but surprisingly, his set was pretty entertaining. He has a big circus theme with girls dancing on stilts, acrobats, a midget fire breather...his performance was crazy!! It was coo to see it live, but i'm not sure how it will translate to TV. He had a bunch of special guest including; Ludacris, Big Boi, DJ Kaled, Ric Ross, and Flo Rida.
Rihanna was next and everyone was pretty hungry by now. It didn't help that she only did TAB and took the longest amount of stage time, and only ran her song twice. No one was feeling it...hopefully she's saving the hottness for the actual show. Oh and she had the nerve to have a closed set where no one was allowed in or out, so this meant that our lunch was sitting outside of the auditorium getting cold! One girl even said that she wished LeToya Luckett was performing instead...I got hella juiced!!! lol
Alicia did her thing. She started of with Superwoman and then moved into TLA. Then came the big surprises! She assembled all together on stage, 3 of the biggest girl groups of the 90's and sang their hits with them. SWV - Weak; En Vouge - Hold On; and TLC - Waterfalls. This is gonna be big, it was HOTT!!!
Last we were SUPPOSED to see Usher's set, but his ass kicked us all out.
It was a looong day, but I'm glad I went. It was cool seeing all these acts rehearse and prepare for the show.
btw...Sunday they had the other half of the acts prepare so I didn't get to see any of the other performers like Lil Wayne, Lil Kim, etc...
DAMM! IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE AWARD RECIPIENTS WERE THERE TO GET THEIR DANG AWARDS...WHAT A FRIGGIN MESS...WELL AT LEAST CHRIS BROWN WAS THERE...LOL BUT THEY NEED TO GIVE THE AWARD TO ONE OF THE POOR FOLKS THAT IS THERE
NEYO WAS SOOO MUCH BETTER THAN USH MAYBE IF B WAS THERE IT WOULDA HELPED...I MISS HER SHE'S BEEN ON THE PAST 2 SHOWS...
AND KEYSHIA IS GHETTO AS HELL...LOL I CAN SAY THAT CUZ I AM FROM THE HOOD...BUT SHE WAS CUTE AND KIM WAS TOO...
ALICIA ROCKED IT AND SWV HELP IT OUT...I GET SOOOO WEAK!!

So far I am very dissapointed with the show. Usher's performance was hot but I wish he would have brung out beyonce and lil Wayne. The stage seems like it's too small. Keyshia Cole always has a problem singing live. Neyo thinks he is Prince. Jeezy was wack. So far Alicia Keys had the best performance. I hope Nelly performs with Ciara. Ciara's energy is the only thing that can save this show
wow so far chris brown and kanye were the only present winners...not even gonna comment on kanye's win, ugh, BET'S discrimination is so ugh..alicia killed it...Usher i'm highly upset and as my friend always says im gonna send him a bomb letter cuz that was terrible after being in the game 10 plus years u think he'd learn to adapt to singing live. all other performances were terrible. keyshia looked lost cuz missy bailed out and this coming from a big fan of keyshia's. ne-yo i'll give credit where it's due u did good boo. who else performed? oh t-pained. was that...can we call that a performance? idk but that was a hot mess. the vocals are a mess they need to fix the technical problems quick. marvin sapp just brought me thru some things. preach bro. d.l. wat the hell? ur corny....im done venting...sorry yall i had to get this off my chest cuz the BET awards get worse and worse every year and i continue to watch.
Keyshia Cole = horrible wtf was she and lil kim doing don't get me started on her dancing and that white short set jump suit lol
Alicia Keys= ok minus-tlc, swv and envogue
T pain = good only because of big Boi and Ludacris and Flo rida
Marvin Sapp= pretty good
Usher= lame and lip singing why???
Neyo= didn't bother watching it he is just too sweet for my taste
waiting for Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Rhianna sigh this should be interesting to say the least!!!
WHY WHY WHY IS D.L. HUGLEY HOSTING THE COULD NOT FIND ANYONE ELSE HE IS NOT FUNNY AT ALL
Rihanna - Take a Bow... NEXT!! Nobody wanna hear that lackluster song after we just jammed to the sounds of Al Green. She should've switched into Don't Stop The Music or something!! I mean, damn... I honestly think that she killed it, and she did no damage whatsoever. I'm so over artists like her. It gets boring after a while. She is not much more than eye candy.
I agree...Rihanna seems like she has been tryna step her live performance game up lately (or at least for tonight anyways) but it still boggles my mind, why she would perform TAB? Its an OKAY song....but not Award show performance worthy. Why not perform Disturbia or something that would actually make people anticipate her performance?

I really didn't think the show was that bad. I actually thought it was better than good. I thought D.L. Hughley was funny. This is coming from someone who is not a fan of his, and has very low expectations for him. Maybe my expectations were so low that he easily surpassed them.

Overall, I thought it was hot. I wasn't mad at Keyshia and Kim either.

Overall, I liked the show..
Dissapointed in Usher's performance.. I was expecting to be wowed.
Keyshia was ok I guess.. Lil Kim was a hot mess.
TPain and Kanye were good.
NeYo was on point. Loved it!
Alicia Keys w/ SWV, EnVogue, and TLC was amazing! My favorite performance.
Chris Brown & Ciara were great.
Al Green took me back.
Queen Latifah looked great.
Rihanna performance was kinda boring.
Lil Wayne was great.
Marvin Sapp was uplifting.
Nelly was fine as hell.. Ciara looked good.. JD looked crazy. Fergie looked pregnant.
I thought Mary J. Blige was performing?
